On 10-12 November 2010, the Ministry of Environment of Japan (MOE) in partnership with AECEN, convened the 2010 AECEN Regional Forum in Kyoto, Japan.
The principal objectives of the regional event were as follows:
- Identify effective strategies in national and regional replication and scale up of innovative approaches in environmental compliance and enforcement in Asia;
- Showcase innovative environmental compliance and enforcement programs in Japan;
- Share results and network accomplishments for the year; and,
- Present the Award for Outstanding Service and Commitment by a Woman;
The regional forum included a formal opening reception; plenary presentations and technical sessions on strategies for replication and scale-up of good practices, and small group discussions on concrete experience and possible replication/scale-up approaches for various AECEN initiatives. Technical sessions and workshop discussions included expert presentations from the region (including Australia and New Zealand), the U.S. and international development partners.
Forum participants included 40-60 senior officials and representatives from AECEN member agencies and other environmental agencies together with development partner representatives. In addition, 10-15 participants from Japan, including nongovernmental stakeholders and members of the academe, participated.
