During June 20-24, the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) and Waikato Regional Council of New Zealand will host an observational program in Waikato for stakeholder representatives from Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and civil society groups from the Tha Chin River Basin to see first-hand community involvement tools and techniques in protecting and restoring waters. Focus areas will include: (i) community awareness raising; (ii) community and citizen monitoring; (iii) community participation in policy formulation; and (iv) eco-system restoration through community clean-up initiatives. During the visit, the Thai delegation will present a concept for a community participation framework for discussion and exchange with representatives from MfE, the Regional Council, and key stakeholders and experts.
