Protection of property: Acquisition of land for Orange Line stayed

LAHORE: A Lahore High Court bench on Friday stayed the acquisition of land for the Orange Line Metro Train project in a petition seeking court declaration of the project as illegal and unconstitutional.

Justice Shahid Karim referred the petition filed by four residents of Kapoorthala House to the LHC chief justice for constitution of a full bench to deal with the matter.

Stay on construction of coal-fired plant upheld

LAHORE: Last week, Lahore High Court upheld a stay order against construction of a 1,320 megawatt coal-fired power project in Sahiwal. The government had filed a review petition against the order issued by Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh. The petition was taken up by Justice Masud Abid Naqvi on October 19.

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday vacated a stay order it had granted against the construction of the 1,320 megawatt Qadirabad Coal-fired Power Project in Sahiwal.

Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh recalled the stay order on the provincial government’s request. Counsel for the government argued that the project would help deal with electricity crisis.

He said the project would be completed in time if the court withdrew the stay order.

The lawyer said the government had suffered financial losses after work on the project was suspended.
