Pollution control board gives clean chit to 6 industries

The UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) on Wednesday submitted a report to the National Green Tribunal saying that only two of the eight industrial units allegedly polluting the Sahibabad drain required an analysis of their effluents.

The board had compiled the report following inspections of all eight industrial units, the names of which were submitted to the tribunal by petitioner Hazi Arif in a case related to environmental pollution in Ghaziabad.


Hydro-power plants have negative impacts

LAM DONG — Hydro-power projects located in areas of ecological varieties have affected the ecological system and caused losses of water-head protective forests.

The assessment was heard at a conference on the protection of Dong Nai River Basin held in Da Lat last Friday.

Hydro-power projects located on the upper sections of the regional rivers have negative impacts to the water environment and cause floods in the lower section, said Nguyen Van Thanh from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Environmental Impact Assessment on the Cambodian Side of the Srepok River due to Hydropower Development in Vietnam

The purpose of this Srepok EIA Study is to evaluate the potential impacts in Cambodia due to planned hydropower development in Vietnam. This study is part of the assessment of the Srepok River Basin in the Vietnam National Hydropower Plan Study (NHP 2005). The Srepok River basin has a moderate hydropower potential compared to other similar basins in the region and is so far undeveloped except for a small scale power station in Vietnam, Dray Linh Old (12 MW), which has not been in operation for the last few years.

Capacity Development Key to Stopping Illegal Trade in Hazardous and Electronic Waste

Building capacity among environmental and customs officials for detecting illegal transboundary shipments of hazardous and electronic wastes was the focus of the Second International Hazardous Waste Inspection Project. 11 countries participated in the Project, which was convened by the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE) Seaport Environmental Security Network (SESN).
