City Hall split over flyover demolition

Date of Release:
Aug 22 2015

Internal conflict has stalled City Hall's decision on whether to demolish the Ratchayothin flyover for the Green Line extension of the electric railway, though railway authorities have scrapped the plan over worries it will worsen traffic.

City Hall earlier protested the demolition amid fears it would worsen traffic on crowded Phahon Yothin Road, where the elevated rail track is to be built. But when the board of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand yielded to the opposition, the city officials suddenly went silent.
