Environment Ministry makes 3rd protest this year against new coal plants

The Ministry of the Environment has opposed new coal power plant construction plans for the third time this year, criticizing a plan for Chiba Prefecture in written opinion submitted to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry late last month.

Citing the Environmental Impact Assessment Act, Environment Minister Yoshio Mochizuki stated in document that plans by groups including Kyushu Electric Power Co. to construct a coal plant in Chiba Prefecture "cannot be approved at present."
