Workshop on Promoting Improved Court Policies and Practices on the Environment in Thailand

Date:
20 Apr 2010 - 23 Apr 2010

To strengthen the capacity of Thai judges on the environment, the Office of the Judiciary and the Office of the President of the Supreme Court, in cooperation with AECEN, are organizing a judicial workshop in Bangkok, Thailand on environmental mediation and expert witness rules.  Senior justices from the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales and Environment Court of New Zealand will share experience and work with the Thai judiciary to support the development of new rules for environmental mediation and expert witnesses. To support this effort, the Office of the Judiciary will identify legal limitations and challenges on environmental adjudication to promote mediation of environmental cases including gathering case studies to support the development of draft rules. As a next step after the April workshop, the Thai court will further refine the draft rules and present the revised rules for further discussion during the September 2010 workshop in Thailand.
