Environment key to tourism sustainability in Maldives, VP says

Speaking during the sixth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and Pacific, the VP highlighted that since the introduction of tourism in the Maldives in the early 1970’s, the sector has grown to be the cornerstone of the Maldivian economy.

“The sector now accounts for roughly 75% of the GDP when counting both direct and indirect contributions, serving as a link and stimulus to almost every sector of the economy including transport, construction, trade and financial services,” Adeeb explained.

Borehole drilling for bridge project begins

Technicians have begun drilling boreholes in order to make the necessary amendments before building the bridge that connects Malé to its suburb Hulhumalé.

Chinese technicians had demonstrated the drilling process at an event held in front of the Tsunami monument. Tourism Minister – who also serves as the chair of the Cabinet’s Economic Council – Ahmed Adheeb and other senior government officials had witnessed this.
