SHC issues notices to ministry, DHA

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to Federal Ministry of Environment, Defence Housing Authority (DHA) chief secretary and others on appeal filed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation against stay order regarding construction work on a flyover and two underpasses in Clifton area.

KMC challenged the SHC’s single bench stay order against construction work of underpass and flyover project in Clifton area, being financed and executed by a private builder and developer to facilitate visitors of its multistory project.

Sinharaja Boundary bickers

Nature heeds no boundaries. Like latitudes and longitudes they are only superficial, but not for humans. So it comes as no surprise when authorities and environmentalists are once again bickering over the boundaries of Sinharaja. In 2011 The Nation brought to the readers’ attention, construction of the road between Imbulkanda and Suriyakanda, in the article titled ‘Sinharaja Fork in the road’. It was a matter of widening a footpath that had existed for 200 years.

Tunnel-road projects subjected to feasibility studies

The four highways under the RM6.34 billion tunnel–road project have been subjected to full compliance to individual feasibility studies and detailed design works (FSDD), which includes detailed environmental impact assessment (DEIA) studies.

Or else, the particular highway project would just end there.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng disclosed here today that each highway under the mega project would have its own separate FSDD.

Under the arrangement, FSDD report of a highway would not affect others so long their respective studies gave them the nod to go ahead.
